From Free Speech Radio News: French president says US spying on EU allies threatens free-trade talks; Snowden still in Moscow airport, Putin says no asylum unless he stops the leaks French president says US spying on EU allies threatens free-trade talks European leaders responded with anger to newly leaked top-secret documents that indicate US intelligence agencies bugged European Union offices in New York, Washington, DC and Brussels, tapping their phones and fax machines and accessing EU computer systems. From France, FSRN’s Liam Moriarty has more. The allegations were published over the weekend by the German magazine Der Speigel and the Guardian newspaper in the UK. Both say the leaked documents came from fugitive whistleblower Edward Snowden. They reportedly reveal a series of US programs aimed at intercepting communications among EU officials on a range of policy and trade issues. European reaction has been swift. Martin Schultz, president of the European Parliament, said if the allegations are true, it would represent a deep breach of trust. “It is shocking that the United States take measures against their most important, their nearest allies, comparable to measures taken in the past by the KGB, by the secret service of the Soviet Union.” French president Francois Hollande said the incident threatens the upcoming US-EU free trade negotiations. In 2001, the European parliament investigated NSA spying in Europe as part of the so-called Echelon Project and said that spying for economic advantage could breach EU law. Secretary of State Kerry has downplayed the current controversy, saying he didn’t know the details of the allegations, but that all countries routinely seek out information to protect their national security. During his residency at Wave Farm, House will invoke the spirit of a town striking clock for the electroacoustic community created by the WGXC transmission. At regular intervals, a short musical piece will be broadcast. However, this piece will not simply count off the hours like a striking clock — rather, it will be the sonified data of online and physical phenomena within the geographic broadcast area. Data will be gathered from many sources: online content platform APIs such as Twitter, Flickr, etc, filtered geographically; macro environmental measurements including weather and astronomical phenomena; and local sensor systems placed on the grounds of Wave Farm measuring ambient acoustics, motion, electromagnetic qualities, and other conditions.

Each B Radio episode features a theme to structure the improvisational nature of the shows, though tangents are frequent and encouraged. This episode: Five jolly NRRF pirates set out to sea in their sloop to ride the radio waves. They quickly encounter a massive storm which diverts them into the Bermuda Triangle, where the ship is scuttled and underwater adventures abound, complete with creatures massive and minute, friendly and menacing. Finally they wash up on a remote island, and have to fend for themselves. This backyard radio event includes a cooking demonstration. NRRF is a collaborative effort to make unlicensed neighborhood radio art. Radia Show 431: Tuned City Brussels student mix (from XL AIR in Belgium). A show that consists of various excerpts from radio pieces the RITS radio students made in order to document their installations made for the Brussels version of Tuned City, a platform which proposes an examination of the relations between architecture and sound. "Radia" is an international network of stations interested in creative and forgotten ways of making radio. Each week, one station makes a show for the rest to air. The project draws the traditions of critical discussion about urban space within the architecture and urban planning discourse–as well as its strategies and working methods–into the context of sound art. This expanded discussion reenforces the potential of the spatial and communicative properties of sound as a tool and means of urban practice. At the foundations of this event are artists’ works and theoretical approaches which examine in a critical and sensitive way the given urban and architectural situations alongside their resulting socio-political implications, that re-use existing spaces or that conceive and open new spaces. A dialogue will be built at the intersection of both disciplines which traces out the complex relations and interactions of space-sound, both presenting and testing new strategies, methods, possibilities and potentials of sound work within the artistic and applied context. The Moon takes a highly individual approach to experimental music, playing improvised music that is influenced in equal parts by contemporary classical composition, jazz, noise and psych-rock. The results are visceral, unpredictable and virtuosic. The Moon is a duo of guitarist Adam Caine and drummer Federico Ughi. Both are established in the New York City jazz and improvised music scene, playing with musicians such as William Parker, Connie Crothers, Daniel Carter, Glenn Branca, Darius Jones and Paul Smoker.
