Bryan Zimmerman's interdisciplinary work draws from relationships with nature, place, and the outdoors. His unconventional approach to materials and social space routinely integrates audio and visual collage, unique forms of "sculptural photography"/three-dimensional decoupage, outdoor installation, performance, analog animation, light and shadow play, sample-based audio composition, lyrics and songwriting, turntablism, ambient "remixes" of field recordings and shortwave radio transmissions, and peculiar appropriations of found urban detritus and other archival audio and visual ephemera. Born and raised in Kansas and currently based in Jersey City and the Hudson Valley, Zimmerman co-manages the photography lab and frequently teaches photography at The Cooper Union.

Zimmerman has exhibited and/or performed at the New Museum, The Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian, Anthology Film Archives, The Municipal Art Society Urban Center Gallery, Performa 07 and Performa 09, Silent Barn, Outpost Artists Resources, Tonic, Knitting Factory, Monkeytown, PS 122 Gallery, Issue Project Room, The Alice Austen House, The Music Hall of Williamsburg, Eat Records, Archibald Arts, Long Island University, Glasslands, Union Pool, Olana State Historic Site, Five Myles Gallery, Catwalk Institute, and the Museum of Modern Art. His work has been featured internationally at Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona, VPRO (Amsterdam), Recyclart (Brussels), Mains d’Ouevre (Paris), Schokoladen (Berlin), and IR11 (Edinburgh). Zimmerman has collaborated in bands including The Dust Dive (2000-2008), Corpse of Discovery (2009-present), Dichroics (2009-2011), and Black Mirror Picnic (2014). Past and present collaborators include Lorenzo Clayton, Jason Loewenstein (Sebadoh), Patrick McCarthy (Zig Zags, Latitude/Longitude, Light in the Attic Records), Jeff Conaway (The Psychic Paramount), Michael Garofalo (Latitude/Longitude, StoryCorps), Darin Mickey (Soft Gang, Dichroics), Charlie Hines (Soft Gang, Panel Donor), Travis Millard (Fudge Factory Comics), Shannon Fields (Stars Like Fleas, Leverage Models), Andrew Klein (Sven Hogan), and Patrick Hambrecht (Flaming Fire). Zimmerman’s photographs and visual works have been published in The Village Voice, Landmarks of New York IV (Monacelli Press), Architectural Inventions: Visionary Drawings of Buildings (Laurence King Ltd), and Oranbeg NET, among other print and Web publications. His audio works have been released on vinyl, CD, and less common formats by free103point9/Wave Farm, Own Records (Luxembourg), and Christian Nightmares.
