Michael Garofalo (Senior Producer at StoryCorps) returned to the Oral History Summer School this week to lead a special winter workshop on Oral History and Radio. The five-day intensive workshop covered the fundamentals of radio storytelling. Students learned how to conceptualize and develop a story for radio, as well as how to edit and assemble interview tape and incorporate additional sound, such as music, to really make a story sing. The workshop culminated with a visit to Wave Farm, and a broadcast of their works-in-progress on WGXC 90.7-FM. Oral histories from (in order) Jenny Kane, Debra Gitterman, Jenny Goldberg, Alanna Medlock, Luisa Conlon, Mary Ellen Lennon, Julia Hanlon, Kara Westerman, Nick Trotta, and Jess Puglisi will air on this program.
