Over the Horizon. A Print to Benefit WGXC. By Tim Clifford

Over The Horizon is a 4-color limited edition silkscreen print created for WGXC by artist Tim Clifford. The print is based on warning signs signaling dangerous levels of high-intensity radio waves. These signs were found on the perimeter of the U.S. Navy’s R.O.T.H.R. (Remote Over The Horizon Radar) installation on the island of Vieques, Puerto Rico. Following the end of decades of bombing tests by the U.S. Navy, the R.O.T.H.R. site is the largest remaining military installation on the island, and monitors ship and air traffic along drug trafficking routes in the Caribbean.

Tim Clifford is a sculptor whose work explores the relationship of the individual to the contemporary landscape with an emphasis on the built environment and vernacular architecture. In recent years he has completed projects at Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island City, New York, and for High Desert Test Sites 5, curated by Andrea Zittel, in Joshua Tree, California. His work can currently be seen as part of Ted Riederer’s NEVER RECORDS project at the Former Tower Records on Broadway and 4th Street in New York and in Hope-A-Holic at the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art, Staten Island. In 2001 he was the recipient of the NYFA Sculpture Fellowship.

Priced at $100, “Over the Horizon” is a 30 x 22 ½ inch, four-color silkscreen, printed by the artist in a limited edition numbered 1-50. Prints will be available February and March 2010. Contact galen @ wgxc.org for more information.
