U.S. Attorny General Eric Holder sent a letter to Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) saying the President can take out Americans with radio-controlled drones. "The U.S. Attorney General's refusal to rule out the possibility of drone strikes on American citizens and on American soil is more than frightening," Paul told Mother Jones Tue., March 5. "It is an affront the constitutional due process rights of all Americans."

Charles Gayle (born February 28, 1939)[1] is a free jazz saxophonist, pianist, bass clarinetist, bassist, and percussionist, who sometimes performs as a mime, "Streets the Clown." Gayle was born in Buffalo, New York. He was apparently homeless for approximately twenty years, playing saxophone on street corners and subway platforms around New York City. In 1988, he gained fame through a trio of albums recorded by a Swedish label, Silkheart Records. Since then he has become a major figure in free jazz, recording for labels including Black Saint, Knitting Factory Records, FMP, and Clean Feed. He has also taught music at Bennington College. Accompanied by ridiculous costuming, pointed instructions, and parables (gone awry), and even the occasional dirigible or two, these elements intertwine, transforming into space-defying interventions, and invariably involving audience participation.

Since the Eighties, Al Margolis has run the indie cassette label Sound of Pig Music. His own music has succeeded in fusing ambience with industrial and musique concrete, producing strange soundscapes that are both soothing and unnerving, often at the same time. In the Nineties, Margolis evolved the Sound of Pig label into Pogus Productions, replacing the cassette medium with compact disk technology.

Nathan Mayberg reports in the Register Star the Columbia County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on a proposed mobile phone tax, Wed., Mar. 13. According to county officials, a plan to tax all county property owners 30 cents per month is under consideration, but details are still unknown. The funds will support the operations of Columbia County 911. The current plan represents a compromise reached after some supervisors objected to taxing every owner of a mobile device countywide. It is unclear if the supervisors will vote on the legislation Wednesday or wait until April. Read the full story in the Register Star.

President Franklin Roosevelt gives first radio Fireside Chat, about the banking crisis, March 12, 1933, and this show rolls that tape. From Wikipedia: "Roosevelt first used what would become known as "fireside chats" in 1929 as Governor of New York. Roosevelt faced a conservative Republican legislature, so during each legislative session, he would occasionally address the citizens of New York directly. In a New York History Quaterly article on the fireside chats' origin, Geoffrey Storm notes that while a WGY radio "address of April 3, 1929 was FDR's third gubernatorial radio address, historian Frank Freidel asserts that this was the first fireside chat." In these speeches, Roosevelt appealed to radio listeners for help getting his agenda passed. Letters would pour in following each of these "chats," which helped pressure legislators to pass measures Roosevelt had proposed. He began making the informal addresses as president on March 12, 1933, during the Great Depression."

Victoria Estok has a dual background in sound art and environmental work. Before pursuing sound, she was an environmental worker in both urban and backcountry settings. It was during this time that she became aware of a deep seated need to uncover the intentions behind everyday actions. Her work highlights listening as a practice often exposing emotional undercurrents. Alternating between taking a playful look at what we consider to be reality and then sometimes a more poetic approach, Estok lingers on sounds and words capturing listeners and having them reexamine what they are paying attention to.

Steve Lambert made international news after the 2008 US election with The New York Times “Special Edition,” a replica of the “paper of record” announcing the end of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and other good news. In the Summer of 2011 he began a national tour of Capitalism Works For Me! True/False – a 9 x 20ft sign allowing people to vote on whether capitalism worked for them . He has collaborated with groups from the Yes Men to the Graffiti Research Lab and Greenpeace. He is also the founder of the Center for Artistic Activism, the Anti-Advertising Agency, Add-Art (a Firefox add-on that replaces online advertising with art) and SelfControl (which blocks grownups from distracting websites so they can get work done). Steve’s projects and art works have won awards from Prix Ars Electronica, Rhizome/The New Museum, the Creative Work Fund, Adbusters Media Foundation, the California Arts Council, and others. Lambert’s work has been shown everywhere from museums to protest marches nationally and internationally, featured in over fourteen books, four documentary films, and is in the collections of The Sheldon Museum, the Progressive Insurance Company, and The Library of Congress. Lambert has discussed his work live on NPR, the BBC, and CNN, and been reported on internationally in outlets including Associated Press, the New York Times, the Guardian, Harper’s Magazine, The Believer, Good, Dwell, ARTnews, Punk Planet, and Newsweek.
