Art, and sound art in particular, about the destruction of buildings, is included here. Grindcore band Napalm Death were going to play a concert at the Victoria and Albert Museum today, but the museum cancelled the show fearing that "the high level of decibels generated by the performance would damage the historic fabric of the building." The group was to play through a sculptural ceramic sound system built by artist Keith Harrison. The sculpture was expected to crumble under the volume of the performance. The show will also look back at a 1984 Einstürzende Neubauten performance at London's ICA, when the band drilled through the stage with a cement mixer and jackhammers. The show will also discuss Gordon Matta-Clark's "building cuts," a series of works in abandoned buildings in which he variously removed sections of floors, ceilings, and walls. And David Byrne's attempts to listen to buildings.
