The New York Post reported that a Saudi national with shrapnel wounds was in custody at a Boston hospital. The Associated Press said cell phone service had been shut down in Boston to prevent someone from triggering a bomb remotely. Many outlets reported BBs in the bombs. These reports were later proved false. The Atlantic Wire traces the entire history of the rumor of the link between a small fire at the JFK Library, and how the media got those reports, and treated that information.
