Ulster Legislature ends free car-charging at county stations

Dec 17, 2015 6:30 am

Patricia Doxsey is reporting in the Daily Freeman Ulster County Legislature has voted to end the county’s practice of providing free, electric, car-charging stations. Drivers of electric vehicles will now be charged a fee to plug in at a county charging station. The move comes after officials were advised by legal counsel that allowing the free use of the charging stations was an illegal gifting of county services. In August, Ulster County Executive Mike Hein unveiled the county’s nine electric charging stations, which were installed at county facilities using state and federal grants and county labor. Hein said the chargers could be a boost to tourism. The measure now goes to Hein for consideration. He can allow the policy to go into effect or veto it. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
