Fire continues to burn in Catskill Forest Preserve

Kate Seckinger is reporting in The Daily Mail state emergency personnel continue to battle a 135-acre forest fire in the town of Hunter near Lanesville. The fire started Thu., May 7. As of Monday evening (May 11), the blaze was contained to the Catskill Forest Preserve within the southwest region of Hunter Mountain, but it had not been extinguished yet. Officials are reporting the wind and the weather are making conditions dangerous for firefighters. The fire is located in very steep terrain, which makes it difficult to put out, forest ranger Robert Dawson said. There have been no injuries and the flames are still not threatening any structures.
