Andrea Sodomka is a composer and media artist from Vienna, Austria. She works in the fields of intermedia art, sound art, radio art, interactive art and art based research. Sodomka initially studied visual art at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna, but soon took up concurrent studies at the Academy of Music’s Institute for Electroacoustics. She worked primarily in composition and visual art until an invitation to visit the ORF Kunstradio studios introduced her to the possibilities of radio art, which led her to explore media art as a whole. Her work continues to reflect her training in visual art, with a process steeped in research and contemplation. She is a co-founder of alien productions, a network for new technology and media art, together with Martin Breindl, Norbert Math and August Black. Since 1997, Alien Productions has contributed to and collaborated on radio and internet projects, primarily cooperative projects working with other artists, technicians, theorists, and scientists. In addition to commissioned compositions and installations for organizations and festivals around the globe, Sodomka has also worked as a curator and teaches coursework in radio art and radio drama at the University of Music in Vienna.
