For this edition, producer Paul Smart took up music programmer Tony Fallon's invitation to learn about the Irish card game, "25," played Mondays and Thursdays at the Weldon House in East Durham, which opens its annual Irish Arts Week this month. Listen to the sounds of the game, attempts to explain its complexities (learned by most players before the age of six, by watching the game played at home), talk about the work lives the local players have had -- from custodians and cooks to bartenders and teachers -- to the many ways in which the game has helped them through life. Music is happenstance, the stories meandering... like a regular card night.
