Nov 14, 2012: 2pm - 3pm
Produced by Paul Smart.
The November edition of The Work Show is all about service, servicemen and women, and a wider definition of Veteran's Day. Those interviewed about their roles as veterans, firemen and EMT specialists include Fred Dodds of Palenville, a World War II veteran and founding member of his community's fire department in the 1930s; Peter Doty of Greenport Rescue Squad, Greene County Ambulance, and the Copake and Chatham Rescue Squads; and Vietnam veterans Bill Thorpe of Haines Falls and Dana Hummell of Elka Park, on Greene County's Mountaintop, regarding their service, years after, and work with local fire departments. Music includes Louis Jordan and His Tympani Five doing G.I. Jive, Mr. Ambulance Driver by The Flaming Lips, Sgt. Barry Sandler's one-time hit, "The Ballad of The Green Beret," and a civil war classic from Kate and Anna McGarrigle. The show is hosted and produced by Paul Smart.
