Andrew O’Connor is an independent radio producer and sound artist working on both a local and national scale. His work in community radio dates back to 1996 at CKMS-FM in Waterloo. Since then he has contributed to stations like CKLN in Toronto and Shouting Fire Radio in San Francisco, producing everything from hour-long radio art features to a weekly new music program called Free Music. O’Connor has also worked in several different capacities at CBC Radio. His work includes creating the library for the Canadian Composers Channel, a twenty-four-hour contemporary music Internet station; and programming and production credits on new music shows like The Signal and Two New Hours. O’Connor has also contributed work to the Deep Wireless Festival in Toronto and created the soundscape for Moving Target, a solo physical theatre performance by Erin Bouvy. His work as a sound artist has been featured at festivals such as the Vancouver New Music Festival, the Third Coast Filmless Festival, Megapolis, and the Guelph Jazz Festival’s Nuit Blanche program. O’Connor’s work also includes a multi-channel installation in which he explores internal music, through the transformation of drumming by the legendary Milford Graves, into the human heartbeat.
