WSIA 88.9 FM was founded in the mid-1970s by a group of students at The College of Staten Island, CUNY who ran some wire to the cafeteria and started spinning records. They then applied for a license and have been broadcasting regularly since August 31, 1981. For over 25 years WSIA has featured a variety of programming, and the CSI students who run the station have always been committed to being new and innovative, and serving the Staten Island and Greater New York community. As part of "Friendly Fire," a curated zone of artists and independent publishers, free103point9 will be selling books, records, and CDs from our Dispatch Series as well as other multiples from free103point9 Transmission Artists and collaborators.

Printed Matter, Inc. presents The NY Art Book Fair, New York City's annual fair devoted to contemporary art books, art catalogues, artists' books, art periodicals, and 'zines. Over 120 international exhibitors, from major distributors and antiquarian dealers to independent publishers and artists, occupy a dual-level 20,000 square foot space. The Fair takes place 28 through 30 September, 2007, in the heart of Chelsea's gallery district at 548 West 22nd Street. A ticketed Benefit Preview on Thursday, 27 September, 6-9 pm, benefits Printed Matter, Inc. Admission to the fair and events is FREE.

Exhibitors and participants from New York City to Oslo and Moscow to Tokyo are convening to share their involvement and activities with contemporary art books. Lovely Daze (Charwei Tsai) hosts the fair closing party with the launch of a new issue, a performance by Bec Stupak, and music by Crystal Understanding and First Nation. Installations include a Lawrence Weiner bookcase from onestar press, a large-scale photographic installation by Dean Sameshima, and posters from Slavs and Tatars.

Refocus, Re-title, Release: the Books of Martin Kippenberger is this year's feature exhibition. Curated by Philip Aarons and AA Bronson, this comprehensive exhibition presents over 150 publications by Martin Kippenberger.

Artists Ed Ruscha, Josephine Meckseper, and David Shrigley have created new limited editions for the fair's opening night Benefit Preview. Tianna Kennedy is the Brooklyn Program Director of free103point9. In addition to her administrative role with free103point9, Tianna is, herself, a curator and transmission artist. She also plays cello, recording and performing frequently. Tianna co-founded the August Sound Coalition in 2004 and the Empty Vessel Project in 2005. Tianna holds a MA from NYU's Performance Studies program. She frequently teaches free103point9 Radio labs, and has presented at Location 1, NY; at Pixelache particle/wave (hybrid radio workshop), Helsinki, Finland; at Deep Wireless's Radio Without Boundaries, Toronto, Canada; and NYC Grassroots Media conferences. Kathy Kennedy, CKUT
Kathy Kennedy is a community artist with a background in classical singing. She is a founding member of Studio XX, the digital media centre for women, and artistic director of the innovative women's choir, Choeur Maha. Her large scale works for radio and live voices have been performed at Place des Arts, for the inauguration of the Vancouver Public Library and at Lincoln Center's Out of Doors festival, among other places.
