Michael Ryan reports in the Windham Journal Prattsville property owners are now learning the results of a recently completed town-wide revaluation. The town board was last week given an update on the property reassessment conducted in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Irene. The Aug. 2011 storm disfigured Main St., leaving 21 structures in the downtown area either ruined or rendered uninhabitable. The purpose of the reval is to make sure the tax burden is spread as fairly and evenly as possible, assessor Kim Cammer told the board. Adding to the challenge, all of the assessor's records were lost in the flood, requiring that office to start from scratch. Notifications, including estimated tax amounts based on the most recent budget, were mailed to property owners last week. Assessors will meet with the public to hear challenges and review data, March 4 to 6. Read the full story in the Windham Journal.
