Pablo Blanco is a member of the small and distinguished Garinagu (plural for Garifuna) Nation in Honduras, Central America. Pablo developed a strong affection for Garifuna culture, language, music and folkways. Raised in a household rich with Garifunadua teachings. Since 2009, Pablo has been disseminating information about the Garinagu community’s history and its current plight in Honduras, Central America and diaspora via his Mabruiga Garinagu social media platform. The goal is to create a centralized Garifuna media network so that all 81 Garinagu communities along the Caribbean coast of Central America can stay abreast of issues affecting the Garinagu community. Pablo has traveled overseas to research Garifuna history to find parallels with other communities such as Native American, Indigenous Caribbean and Continental African Diaspora. In reviewing over 900+ books in the New York Public Library system, the Garifuna story hasn’t been told from a Garifuna persons perspective. He is searching for the truth about his past. Garinagu is very dynamic as it has many connections with Caribbean and African experience.
Mr. Blanco is a savant and Scholar of Garifuna History, Culture, and Music. His work focuses on upliftment and empowerment of the Garifuna Nation. He’s currently organizing a Garifuna a Indigenous Caribbean and Maroon Think Tank. This collaboration between these groups plan to study and find sustainable solutions to issues that plagues these endangered communities. Pablo holds a B.A Sociology from SUNY Buffalo and a Masters of Science Degree in Information Technology from Pace University. He can be reached for lectures, presentations and Garifuna cultural performances at elitecaribint@gmail.comTune in on Sunday, February 02, 2025 to learn more on this community on WGXC 90.7 and online www.wgxc.org
