MidHudsonNews [dot] com is reporting the Port Authority Board September 26, approved a new plan to attract additional airline service and more passengers, and to improve and expand on concession facilities at Stewart International Airport. The decision followed recent news of the loss of Norwegian Air's European service at the Orange County hub. Norwegian terminated service Sept. 14 because of the continued grounding of the Boeing 737 Max jets worldwide. The new plan includes hiring a new operator. The authority intends to upgrade the air carrier incentive program and to hire an experienced marketing firm to increase Stewart's visibility internationally and within the Hudson Valley. Construction of a 20,000-square-foot addition to the passenger terminal is underway. The addition was designed to handle federal inspection station services for international travelers.
