Aug 24, 2016 6:15 am

U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and Representative Chris Gibson Tue., Aug. 23, announced nearly $600,000 in federal funding for the National Young Farmers Coalition. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program. The National Young Farmers Coalition will use the funding to help beginner farmers and ranchers across the country make informed financial decisions when purchasing land. The coalition will provide technical assistance to navigate land access options such as long-term leases, land trust partnerships and traditional farm loans. The coalition will also host a series of webinars and in-person training focusing on assessing and evaluating financial decisions. The Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program was first established by the Farm Bill in 2008. The program provides support to those who have farmed or ranched for less than ten years.
