This week we visit with Joanne Griffith, An award winning broadcaster, journalist and writer who authored the book Redefining Black Power a collaboration with the Pacifica Radio Archives published by City Lights books in January of 2012. She has hosted From the Vault several times and produces a Pacifica Radio Archives segment weekly on the BBC-5 Live on Up All Night. The book, Redefining Black Power reflections on the state of black America was about the moment when President Obama was elected the first time in 2008 and Joanne's work to cull opinions from the Black community about what that means. Contributors included: Linn Washington Jr., Van Jones, WBAI's own Esther Armah. Today we will focus on President Obama's first State of the Union address in his second term and reflect on the book and the chapters that include Dr. Vincent Harding, Michelle Alexander, Dr. Julianne Malveaux and Ramona Africa.
