Films flock for shooting Hudson Valley

Jun 17, 2019 12:03 am
John W. Barry writes in the Poughkeepsie Journal that a bunch of recent films and TV shows are out soon, filmed in the Hudson Valley. “The Dead Don’t Die," filmed partially in Columbia County and other parts of the Hudson Valley, stars Bill Murray and Adam Driver, and was written and directed by part-time Ulster County resident Jim Jarmusch, and opened in theatres June 14. Now film backers locally say John Krasinski is returning to Dutchess County to film part of the sequel to the 2018 movie, “A Quiet Place” there. And Mark Ruffalo has been filming an HBO limited series called “I Know This Much is True” in the area this year. “That’s quite a run,” said Laurent Rejto, director of the Woodstock-based Hudson Valley Film Commission. Three other movies are set to begin production in the Hudson Valley in July and August, and Georgia's adoption of a restrictive abortion law has film crews boycotting that state, so they could find the Hudson Valley an alternate location. Amy Hutchings Casting in Rhinebeck, Ready to Serve Catering in Poughkeepsie, and the Terrapin Restaurant in Rhinebeck are three local businesses that benefited from "The Dead Don't Die" filming locally. In May, the full-length feature film, "A Deadly Legend," was being shot at The Lumberyard in Catskill with Judd Hirsch, Lori Petty, and Corbin Bernsen. The Lumberyard is the only New York state-qualified, purpose-built sound stage in Greene County. Read more about this story in the Poughkeepsie Journal.
