Gillibrand, Schumer vote with McConnell on NSA

May 23, 2015 12:39 am
New York Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer voted with Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to continue the Patriot Act's domestic spying program, which failed to get the necessary 60 votes shortly before 1 a.m., Sat., May 23. The vote was 58-42. A second vote was taken for a two-month extension, which Gillibrand and Schumer voted against, which also failed to reach 60 votes, 45-54. After that, they voted whether to extend the act until June 2, which was blocked. McConnell gave up around 1:30 a.m., saying the Senate would return May 31, hours before the program is set to expire. WGXC will air the Senate vote at 9 a.m., Sat., May 23.
