William J. Kemble is reporting in the Daily Freeman the state Public Service Commission Thurs., Apr. 25, approved a revision to how Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. calculates its electricity delivery charges in an effort to spread pending price increases among all of the utility’s customers. The changes were granted without comment during a morning meeting of the commission. A Central Hudson spokesman said the changes will protect large buyers of market price electricity from being unfairly charged additional fees. Approximately 90 percent of Central Hudson customers are considered market price buyers. Increases of 6 percent for residential customers and 10 percent for business customers are expected following the May 1 implementation of a federal capacity zone for the region. Under the “capacity zone” plan, utilities will be required to buy at least 88 percent its power from electricity producers within their zone. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
