HHA staff to receive hazard pay for service during pandemic

Jun 01, 2020 5:30 am
Jeanette Wolfberg is reporting for The Columbia Paper the Hudson Housing Authority has received a grant of roughly $39,000 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to help with matters related to the COVID-19 crisis. The Housing Authority Board of Commissioners May 13, approved a resolution to use $3,600 of the grant funds to pay one-time bonuses, or hazard pay, to HHA staff for their continued work in the face of the potential threat of exposure to the virus. The bonuses will consist of $600 for full-time employees and $300 for part-timers. So far, “We got nobody living here that’s sick,” said Tenant Commissioner Robert Davis. “Knock wood, nobody on my staff has it,” said Executive Director Tim Mattice. Grant funds could also be used to hire extra people to clean the common areas, hallways, elevators and door knobs several times a day, said Randall Martin, chair of the Board of Commissioners. The pandemic could have what experts characterize as a second wave this fall or winter. “One thing we should look for is fall resurgence. We should stock up,” said Martin. The HHA manages the 135-unit Bliss Towers as well as three low-rises in downtown Hudson. NOTE: Martin is a volunteer WGXC programmer. Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
