Cairo-Durham to hold public forum on elementary plan
At the Feb. 28 Cairo-Durham school district Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Mary Fassett announced plans to conduct a public forum to address community questions and concerns about the grade realignment plan (also known as the Princeton Plan). The meeting will take place 7 p.m., Thurs., March 7, at the Cairo-Durham Middle/High School. At that meeting, Fassett said, the public will be presented with additional material, laying out the rationale behind the district's decision. Board President Greg Koerner-Fox polled board members on whether they will reconsider their prior vote regarding the K-2 and 3-5 grade division keeping the Durham Elementary school open in the 2013-14 school year. The response was a unanimous "no." In a public comment period the Board was asked if it would consider implementing the grade realignment plan in the two floors of the Cairo Elementary building as a cost-saving measure. Fassett said more information on the specifics of the forum would be released Fri., Mar. 1. PLAY (7:37) -- Galen Joseph-Hunter
