May 06, 2015 12:03 am
William J. Kemble in The Daily Freeman reports Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro plans to start a crisis intervention training program, educating police about handling possibly volatile situations. “We want to use the model out of Bexar County, Texas — to train law enforcement, to train first responders, to train corrections officers, and to train 911 dispatchers and be prepared to deal with those with mental health and addiction problems because that first contact is most important,” he said at a town hall-style meeting in Rhinebeck last week. Dutchess County will pay 50 percent of the overtime cost for municipalities to send officers for the training, so there will be costs for local police budgets. “We want, in 24 months, to have trained every law-enforcement personnel on the ground,” Molinaro said.
