Town of Catskill adopts budget; Seeley can keep office

Jim Planck reports in The Daily Mail the Town of Catskill adopted its 2013 budget this week. The adopted spending plan calls for a tax levy of $3.2 million, a 1.6-percent overall decrease from 2012. The tax rate will increase five cents in both the town and village rates. Budgeted expenses are expected to increase next year, as are revenues. Read the full story in The Daily Mail.

In other news, Kyle Adams reports Catskill Village President Vincent Seeley has indicated he will remain village president, despite being elected to a seat on the Greene County Legislature. Seeley's decision to do so has received the go-ahead from the village attorney. Although New York state law restricts county officers from holding other elected county, town or city offices, it makes no mention of village offices. “I’m going to do everything that’s appropriate within the law,” said Seeley. “But it’s my intent to keep both positions.” Village Board Trustee Joseph Kozloski, also tentatively elected to the Greene County Legislature pending absentee ballots, has indicated he will likely step down.
