Tom Horsfall and Richard Dillman founded the Maritime Radio Historical Society on what is believed to be the date of the last commercial Morse code transmission in the United States: July 12, 1999. In collaboration with the National Park Service they restored the KPH transmit and receive sites in Bolinas and Point Reyes, which despite being closed for two years still had their receivers running. They began by transmitting on amateur frequencies under the call sign K6KPH. While they still operate the station in service to the amateur radio community, they obtained a license to operate commercial station KSM, and finally after a decade, they gained control over the original KPH call sign. It is now a fully functional coast station, transmitting Morse to any vessel that can still receive it. Text adapted from the MRHS website.
