Mid-Hudson News Service is reporting Columbia County had the lowest unemployment rate in the region in August, according to data released by the state Department of Labor. At 4.7 percent, the county's jobless rate was one-tenth of a percent below Putnam County, Rockland County was third on the list and Westchester and Dutchess followed. Greene County was ranked sixth with a 6 percent unemployment rate. The August unemployment rate in the Hudson Valley was 5.4 percent, down from 5.7 percent in July and down from 6.4 percent in August 2013.
