Catskill Elementary hires principal from Taghkanic Hills
Aug 29, 2014 6:44 am
Jim Planck in The Daily Mail reports that the Catskill Central School District Board of Education hired a principal for Catskill Elementary School from Taghkanic Hills Elementary School, but a third of the board wanted no new hiring at all. John E. Rivers, of Nassau, Rensselaer County, currently an Assitant Principal in Craryville, replaces Dawn Scannapieco, who moved to the Saugerties School District. Board member Kyle Lyles explained his “no” vote was not against Rivers or his qualifications, but because he believes the district does not need someone to take over Scannapieco’s duties. “Fiscally, it’s not responsible,” said Lyles, “to (fill) it at this time, when we have other administrators in the district that can do the job.” Also voting against the hiring, without comment, were BOE President Andy Jones and member Ryan Osswald. Voting in favor were BOE Vice President Courtney Parish and members Tracy Darling, William Fiske, Christine Kirsch, Sasha Kubicek, and Lisa Warner. Rivers begins work Sept. 10.
