• The Windham Journal reports that Columbia-Greene Media named Hudson native Courtney Wrigley circulation manager, effective immediately, in charge of online and paper subscriptions for the local newspaper chain.
• Michael Ryan reported in the Windham Journal the new emergency services telecommunications tower on Windham Mountain is now up. Officials gathered for the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the site Fri., Oct. 3. The tower will make various emergency communications systems capable of exchanging and interpreting information, to avoid the type of communication breakdown that occurred in Aug. 2011, as a result of Tropical Storm Irene.
• The Associated Press is reporting in The Daily Freeman that the U.S. Department of Energy issued a presidential permit for the proposed 330-mile electric transmission line moving Canadian hydroelectric power to New York City, on a route that includes the Hudson River. The 1,000-megawatt Champlain Hudson Power Express has been discussed since 2008. See The Daily Freeman for more information.
• Julia Reischel in The Watershed Post reports a community radio employee of WIOX in Roxbury was fired for sending an offensive email to Congressman Chris Gibson's campaign email account. Gibson, currently running against Democrat Sean Eldridge to hold his seat in Washington D.C., was interviewed on Fox News Oct. 3 about the issue. "The fired employee allegedly sent multiple emails containing personal attacks over a period of months to Gibson's campaign staff using the official WIOX email account," Reischel writes. "The employee has not been named by the station or by WSKG, a nonprofit media company from Binghamton that merged with WIOX last year." Read the full story in The Watershed Post.
