Hudson school board begins process to close primary school
Jeanette Wolfberg is reporting in The Columbia Paper at its recent meeting, the Hudson Board of Education discussed the process of selling the John L. Edwards Primary School, located on State Street on Hudson's north side. The building currently houses pre-kindergarten through second grade. The plan is to eventually move those students into the Montgomery C. Smith Intermediate School on Harry Howard Ave., creating a K-5 building. It is still unclear when this consolidation will occur. School superintendent Maria Suttmeier announced at the board's July 21 meeting that real state professionals are expected to brief the board this month on the logistics of selling the building. In addition to the district's K-2 program, the Head Start program rents space in the John L. Edwards building. Asked by a board member about the fate of the Head Start program once the district sells JLE, Suttmeier said that was a matter for Columbia Opportunities to consider.
