Earlids: Practice Room is an edited version of a room recording made by Sam Sebren during a live performance and "Saturday Night Special" WGXC broadcast by Sebren and Tom Roe on Saturday, January 25, 2014. In preparation for their upcoming lecture/performance at the New School in New York City, on the occasion of the exhibition Earlids, Roe (Wave Farm’s Artistic Director) and Sebren (a 2013 Wave Farm Artist-in-residence) “practiced” their presentation in the form of a live performance on Wave Farm’s WGXC 90.7-FM. Roe's topic was the history and mission of Wave Farm, and Sebren's topic was his recent residency work. As listeners will observe, Sebren and Roe’s initial lecture format rapidly gives way to a spontaneous, durational, drone, and noise performance using radios and electronics.
Organized by The New School’s Sound Research Group, Earlids was at the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center, January 17 - February 5, 2014. The exhibition showcased multimedia projects, papers, sound installations, live performances, and workshops by educators, artists, and scholars; seeking to facilitate a transdisciplinary dialogue about and through the medium of sound. Sebren's 2013 Wave Farm Artist Residency work, Re: Search, a quasi, non-documentary about Transmission Arts, was included in the exhibition. Roe and Sebren presented their lecture/performance as part of an evening of special programs January 29, 2014. An audio recording of that presentation is available under "Archive Files" on this page.
