Old Field Farm will use the funds for genetic improvements to its herd of pigs and for purchasing new farrowing huts that will help improve the health and well being of their pigs. Animal Welfare Approved’s Good Husbandry Grants help promote innovative, forward thinking farming techniques, with funds awarded to farms and processing plants across the United States. Twenty-eight grants ranging from $600 to $6000 were awarded this year to farmers and slaughter plants working with or seeking to work with AWA farmers. Old Field is run by the Nadin family, is located on 160 acres, and mixes arts activities with farming... and sells its products, including butchered meats, to key private groceries in New York City, as well as its own buying club.
