The next installment of “Overlooked,” WGXC’s monthly guide to overlooked and under-heard music, comes sandwiched between two April birthdays: Duke Ellington (4/29) and Charles Mingus (4/22). On Thursday, April 27 from 7:00 - 9:30pm, host Rob Saffer will highlight recordings from various eras of Ellington’s and Mingus’s long careers, illustrating the tight musical connection between the two. Indeed, Mingus regularly cited Ellington as his most important influence. The show will culminate with “Money Jungle,” a 1962 trio recording with Duke, Mingus and Max Roach.
