Employees could get $500 a week under Cuomo family leave plan

Josefa Velasquez is reporting at Politico New York under the employee-funded paid family leave plan proposed by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, employees could receive up to about $500 a week while taking time from work to care for a child or sick family member, depending on their wages. Under the plan, employees would initially be able to receive 35 percent of their average weekly wage after working four or more consecutive weeks at a location. That would increase to 45 percent in 2020, and be capped at 50 percent in the years thereafter. The program would be funded by employee paycheck deductions of 60 cents or less, per week. The bill allows for employees to take time away from work to provide physical and psychological care for a family member, including children, parents, grandparents, grandchildren, siblings, spouse or domestic partners. The law is set to go into effect in 2018, if approved by the Legislature. Read the full story at Politico New York.
