Mar 12, 2015 6:24 am
Brittany Horn is reporting in the Times Union exactly one week after thousands of charter school students closed downtown Albany streets, an estimated 2,000 parents, students and teachers marched down State St. to the state Capitol, in support of traditional public schools. The rally and march held Wed., Mar. 11, was organized and funded by the Alliance for Quality Education. Participants called for a $2 billion increase in state funding from Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and the state Legislature. Students from Cohoes, Schenectady and East Greenbush participated in the rally, but students from across the state were represented as well. Alliance Executive Director Billy Easton said the event Wednesday served as a field trip for students and an opportunity to learn about participatory democracy.
