Legislature to appeal for Kaaterskill limits

Joe Gentile is reporting in The Daily Mail Greene County legislators discussed preventing access to portions of Kaaterskill Falls at a meeting of the Public Safety Committee, Wed., Aug. 6. The conversation was prompted following two deaths in four weeks at the Hunter tourist attraction. The committee is drafting a letter to state Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Joseph Martens, the Hunter Town Board, state Assemblyman Pete Lopez and state Senator Cecilia Tkaczyk (KAT-chik) about their safety concerns. In addition to impeding trail access, the committee discussed long-term solutions, such as fences, short-term emergency financial aid for training and equipment, and upgrading emergency communications on a nearby DEC ranger tower.
