Republican Congressman Chris Gibson, from Kinderhook, voted with Democrats Tue., Jan. 1, for the fiscal deal that passed 257-167. Gibson was one of 85 Republicans voting with 172 Democrats to approve the agreement. The bill, which passed the Senate New Year's Eve and awaits the president's signature, averts the so-called "fiscal cliff" for now, though setting up three other "cliffs" in the near-future. The full text of Gibson's statement on why he voted for the "fiscal cliff" deal is available in Wednesday edition of the Daily Freeman.
