Speenburgh, Greene County legislator, dies

Michael Ryan in The Daily Mail reports that Wayne Speenburgh, the former chairman of the Greene County Legislature died Sept. 17. Speenburgh, a Republican, represented Coxsackie, and was chairman in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Irene, which kept him at the other end of the county that year. He also spent his youth in Prattsville and was a 1962 graduate of Windham-Ashland-Jewett school. Speenburgh joined the legislature in 2003 and was still actively serving leading up to his death. He was also a U.S. Postal Service administrator. “He will definitely be missed in the legislative halls,” Cairo legislator William Lawrence said. “He shot from the hip but always did what he said he was going to do.
