A measure to designate a portion of State Route 23 as the "Honorable Donald Olson Memorial Highway," passed the state Senate Thurs., June 12. It is expected to pass in the Assembly, as well. The bill was sponsored by state Sen. Cecilia Tkaczyk. In a statement released by her office, Tkaczyk called Olson a selfless and dedicated public servant for the people of Greene County. "Renaming a portion of Route 23 in his honor is a fitting tribute that will remind us all of his commitment and of all he did for his community," Tkaczyk said. Olson, a retired clerk of the Greene County Legislature, died in an automobile accident last year. He also served as Prattsville Town Justice, and was a former volunteer firefighter with the Prattsville Hose Company for more than 25 years.
