Cairo Nature Center now open

Kyle Adams reports in The Daily Mail the Cairo Nature Center is now permanently open. The center, a small park around the old reservoir on Route 23 with picnic tables and hiking trails, was reopened July 25. It has remained open to the present time. “It’s a nice little destination,” said Robert Hempstead, director of Parks, Buildings and Grounds for the Town of Cairo..The park is now free and open to all. The nature center has been opened and closed a number of times, with its proponents struggling against an unenthusiastic town board. “We’d almost given up,” said Neil Schoenfeld, about their efforts to open the park.
