Nathan Mayberg reports in the Register Star the town of Claverack and the Preservation League of New York recently announced funding has been approved for an engineering study of the 140-year-old Shaw Bridge in Claverack. The bridge is currently closed due to the vulnerable nature of its wooden deck. The study is part of a town project to save and preserve the iron arched bridge. The Shaw Bridge is believed to be the only existing bridge of its kind in the country. It is located on Van Wyck Lane over Claverack Creek. The plan is to eventually re-open the span to pedestrian and vehicle traffic, only. Read the full story in the Register Star.
