Judge keeps the state from giving out new cannabis sales licenses
Patricia R. Doxsey reports in the Daily Freeman that on Aug. 11 state Supreme Court justice Kevin Bryant left a temporary restraining order in place temporarily barring the Office of Cannabis Management from issuing and approving new retail cannabis licenses. This is the latest roadblock to opening cannabis stores in the state, more than two years after legalization was passed. Since then, very few stores have opened. Osbert Orduña, a service-disabled veteran and justice-involved individual with a license to open a store, said, “We are small business owners, we are your neighbors, your friends… we’re not the billionaires that fly around on their jets … we’re working class businesses....This restraining order is killing us.” The lawsuit is about the state prioritizing licenses for the Conditional Adult Use Recreational Dispensary program, and is brought by four service-disabled veterans who say they have been unfairly blocked from a sales license. Unless some type of settlement is reached, the matter goes back to court at 10 a.m. on Aug. 25. Read more about this story in the Daily Freeman.
