Sheriff Harrison will not run for third term

Nathan Mayberg writes in the Register Star Columbia County Sheriff David "Bubba" Harrison Jr. announced Wed., Jan. 16, he will not seek re-election in November. Harrison cited his wife's health as the reason for stepping down. He is currently serving his second, four-year term as sheriff, and 30th year with the department. Harrison announced he will support Captain David Bartlett to succeed him. Bartlett has been with the department 29 years. Bartlett, along with retired State Police Investigator Gary Mazzacano and Chatham Police Department Deputy Chief Mark Leggett are expected to compete for the Republican line for sheriff this fall.
