Nathan Mayberg reported in the Register Star the Hudson Armory will now be called the Galvan Community Learning Center. The announcement was made Friday, Dec. 7. The building, which will house the Hudson Area Library, is now owned by Galvan Partners LLC and the Galvan Initiatives Foundation. The main library will be located at the center of the former armory. A three-story educational center will be constructed at the rear of the property, in place of the former storage building. Under an agreement reached with the library in May, Galvan will pay for the majority of costs related to the library build-out and relocation. Read the full story in the Register Star.

Michael Ryan reported in The Daily Mail the Jewett Town Board recently approved the town's 2013 budget, totaling slightly more than $970,000. The spending plan represented an overall decrease from a year ago, although appropriations in the general fund and in the highway portion of the budget increased. Salary increases were budgeted for the town clerk, town judge and assessor. Read the full story in The Daily Mail.

Barbara Reina reported in the Register Star a special project referendum will be put before the voters of the Ichabod Crane Central School District, Wed., Dec. 12. Residents are being asked to approve a $7 million capital improvement project. The plan to be financed calls for technology upgrades, gym renovations, replacement of the master clock and public announcement system in all three schools and resurfacing of the district track. Funding for the improvements will come from multiple sources, including a bond, state aid and the district's fund balance. Voting will take place from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday, in the Ichabod Crane High School gym. Read the full story in the Register Star.
