With cold, ski resorts open early

[caption width="300" align="alignleft"] From Windham Mountain website.[/caption]The cold snap that touched the entire nation this week allowed the local ski resorts to start making snow, and Hunter and Windham will open Fri., Nov. 21. Windham Mountain opens at 9 a.m. Nov. 21, the earliest opening day in ten years, according to the resort's website. Windham projects nine trails open with three lifts running. Hunter Mountain also opens Nov. 21 for a weekend of skiing, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with 12-48” of man-made snow on the slopes. Catamount Ski in Copake has begun making snow, but has no opening date scheduled at press time. The snow-making may be short-lived, however, as the National Weather Service predicts temperatures to stay above freezing for several days starting Sunday.
