Adam Clayton is reporting in the Register Star Columbia County Board of Supervisors Chairman Pat Grattan explained Mon., Aug. 25, the logic behind his decision to have the Airport Subcommittee report to the Public Works Committee. The Kinderhook Republican has been under fire from various members of the public since announcing the decision earlier this month. The Public Works Committee is chaired by Supervisor Mike Benson. During his tenure on the Airport Subcommittee, Benson was resistant to public input, among other things. Grattan said Public Works would oversee the workings of the Airport Subcommittee, but would not hold sway over subcommittee decision-making. Grattan denied he intended to disband the subcommittee. He said, “As long as I am chairman of the Board of Supervisors, there will be an Airport Subcommittee.” Grattan and subcommittee chair Art Bassin agreed some members should be shared between the two groups. Supervisors Sarah Sterling and Ron Knott will now be crossover members of the Airport Subcommittee, while Supervisor Mike Benvenuto will join Public Works.
