The Town of Catskill holds their monthly meeting. The public is encouraged to attend. WGXC is partnering with the Town of Catskill to present live audio streams of public meetings. The Catskill Town Board meets every first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m., and holds a committee meeting the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. During meetings, the live stream will be accessible by clicking the play arrow below. Beautiful Racket, the community singing organization founded in 2020, perform. The evening begins with a drum circle at 5:30 p.m. followed by a singing performance at 7 p.m. Waterfront Wednesdays also features free community boat rides and fishing for kids, as well as food and craft vendors. Event is open to everyone.

Vendors include Common Hands Farm, Koen's Bread, Sergio Rico, Willowwood Farm, Harvey Mountain Alchemy, Charlie Miller, Sacred Henna, Coxsackie Bee Goods, Farm On Foundation, Red Oak Farm, Autonomous Coffee, and more. Various pop-up vendors will be featured throughout the season, as well as great musicians and some educational opportunities as well. The market was formerly held on Wednesday.

Sing and dance your way through summer with local musician, Abby Lappen, during these Movement and Music Storytime sessions held in the library's Community Room. Toddlers, kids, and families of all ages will enjoy this program as they learn how to use stories, songs, and motion to develop early literacy skills. Open to the public. The Black and Brown Families of Hudson exhibition documents the historic presence of Black and Brown families residing in Hudson and includes extended family members that return to their families centered in Hudson. This is the second leg of a documentation project by Operation Unite NY. The reception will take place in the library Community Room and the photos will be on display through August 28. This exhibition is presented in partnership with Operation Unite NY.

A collective exhibit curated by Gallery@CREATE in partnership with Schoharie County Arts highlighting several artists representing Schoharie County. Featured artists include Gary Bower, Christine Harris, Ursula Carr Bower, Christopher Lisio, Denise Kelty, Elizabeth Apgar-Smith, Stephen Spretnjak, David Smyth, Jonathan Stasko, and Scott Keidong. An opening reception for “Vision, Light, and Structure” will be held on Sunday, July 9 from 1-3 p.m. Gallery hours: Fridays, 4 p.m.-7 p.m. and Saturdays/Sundays, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

The Whimbrels, Overheard, and the Wharton Tiers Ensemble perform live at the Avalon Lounge in Catskill with a live webstream of the entire show from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at wgxc.org/listen, and a live broadcast on 90.7-FM from 8-10 p.m.

The Whimbrels are a power art-rock band with lineages to some of the most influential and raw music New York has produced--loud art with a back beat.

ARAD EVANS (guitar, vox, primary songwriter) was associated with Glenn Branca’s ensemble from the 1980’s until Branca’s death a few years ago. He is founder and still performs with Heroes of Toolik. In addition to Branca, he has played with Quiet City, Rhys Chatham, Ben Neill, John Myers’ Blastula, The SEM Ensemble, The New Music Consort, Virgil Moorefield’s Ensemble and many other groups. “A truly inventive and surprising guitar player." (Rick Moody, The Rumpus Aug. 25, 2016).

NORMAN WESTBERG altered the course of rock as the main guitarist of the Swans over 35 years, contributing "overwhelming waves of volume with a mix of therhythmically slashing and the harmonically sensual." He has a busy career as a solo artist and with other projects, such as Heroin Sheiks, NeVah and Five Dollar Priest.

LUKE SCHWARZ is blazing a trail as a young New York guitarist to watch; he also toured and recorded with Branca and performs frequently, including with his outfit, Greasetrap.

MATT HUNTER (Bass) is a co-founder of New Radiant Storm King and plays or has played with a galaxy of cool projects, including J. Mascis & the Fog, King Missile, Silver Jews, SAVAK, and recent solo releases.

Drummer STEVE DiBENEDETTO, is a widely shown and collected fine art painter but also in in high demand for his music. ("The Spinless Yesmen" 1984—89, "Wonderama",aka "The Shapir-o-Rama" 1990—95, Airport Seven from 2010 to 14). He frequently collaborates with Dave Rick (Bongwater, King Missile, Yo La Tengo, Phantom Tollbooth) and Kim Rancourt (When People Were Shorter and Lived by theWater).

Wharton Tiers has played drums for Laurie Anderson and Theoretical Girls among others, and runs Fun City Studios where he has recorded artists like Sonic Youth, Swans, Glenn Branca, Dinosaur Jr, and many more.

Mountain Top Historical Society Annual Members Meeting and Justine Hommel Memorial Lecture. It is election time and all up to date members are invited to vote for the Board of Directors at 10am followed by Carl Fowler's presentation, "200 Years of Beauty: Tourism and the Catskills” at 11 am. At the historic U & D Train Station, join us to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the construction of the Catskill Mountain House. Carl Fowler will show historic images along with modern day photos of legendary sites such as the Mountain House, and other grand hotels and access routes to those sites by rail, river, and road. Mr. Fowler will also tell the story of the Laurel House Depot sign, and other depot signs of the area. Public is welcome. Registration required.
