Activists opposed to oil shipments on the Hudson River demonstrate on the Hudson River. Kayakers, canoists, boaters, sailors, maritime artists, and performers are invited to launch from the Forbes Rd. boat launch in Rensselaer, NY. Activists will paddle, sail, or motor south to Corning Preserve to demonstrate resistance to oil trains and oil tankers in Albany. This on-water rally will be a prelude to Break Free Albany: Stop the Oil Trains on May 14.

The Hunter Town Board is considering repealing or changing two of six recent laws with public meetings May 13 at the Mountain Top Library. A standing-room-only special meeting in Hunter April 12 led to the public hearings, which consider repealing laws passed recently about small-scale mining and timber harvesting. A proposed Local Law, which will repeal Local Law #4 and #5 of the year 1989, known as the Regulating Construction and Demolition Waste Disposal Law of the Town of Hunter, will be discussed.

"The Underneath the Above Show #1" from Bread & Puppet Theater. “The Underneath the Above Show #1 (inspired by the forthcoming elections in the greatest country in the history of the universe)” is a new work written and directed by Bread and Puppet founder Peter Schumann. It takes place in a distant, mountainous country much different from ours, where successive unsuccessful cardboard kings reign with fleeting promise over an over-life-size, technicolor cardboard electorate operated by a hardhat workforce prone to coffee breaks, until the eternally-hopeful population installs a jolly old god in the highest office of the land.

Part two of the Science of Nesting Birds program presented by Cornell Cooperative Extension and Lab of Ornithology NestWatch Program staff. Learn how to safely check nest boxes (also called birdhouses) and record information such as the GPS coordinates of nest sites, species of birds, and number of eggs and babies. Data collected will be added to NestWatch, a citizen science project. Come back for the third workshop in the series and build a nest box to take home. Free public event. Under the direction of band leader Bill Baxter, in this hour-long concert the Coxsackie-Athens Community Band will play a selection of tunes for "Children of All Ages." The Coxsackie-Athens Community Band is a wind ensemble comprised of musicians from Greene and surrounding counties. The Cairo Historical Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization committed to collecting, analyzing and sharing local history. Community bands played a vital role in bringing communities together in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
