The Athens Cultural Center presents “A Rising Tide; Imagining a Warmer Climate in the Hudson Valley,” its first ever Outdoor Sculpture Festival. Mounted in cooperation with the Greene Land Trust and Scenic Hudson at three sites in and near the village of Athens, curators Cynthia Karasek and Randall Evans will present the work of 13 artists, each responding to the river and its valley's industrial past and its more bucolic present, and their visions of a warmer future that may await us sooner than we imagine. Including: Matt Bua's high water tree house; Bob Braine's tulip poplar dugout; Komoko Abe's ethereal pond skimming art, and more. The show will open Saturday, August 11 with a reception from 6-8 pm at our gallery at 24 Second Street in Athens. Maps to the sites will be available anytime, and an online database of images and information regarding local climate change will be posted and viewable online or at the center Saturday and Sundays, 1 to 4. More information and maps of the Festival can be found at athensculturalcenter.org.
